MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME

By Sarah Meade

Word Count: 150

Elle can’t wait for the family beach vacation!

Last year’s spring trip got cancelled.

“I miss Grandma and Grandpa,” says Elle. “And Aunt Leah, Uncle Bob, and all my cousins!”

“It’s been too long,” Mom murmurs.

“We missed so much,” says Elle.

Mom nods. “But we’ll make up for lost time.”

“That’s it!”

Elle plans . . .

On Sunday everyone arrives.

Hugs!

Kisses!

High fives!

Too excited to sleep!

Monday the festivities begin.

Snowmen in the sand!

Valentines!

Shamrocks, too!

Tuesday they hunt for Easter eggs– on the beach!

Wednesday is for flags and fun.

A cookout!

Sparklers!

Thursday brings . . .

Spooky sandcastles!

A costume parade!

That evening, a family feast.

On Friday it’s . . .

Christmas!

They trim the tree,

exchange gifts,

and sing campfire carols.

On Saturday everyone wears party hats.

“Three! Two! One! Happy New Year!”

Elle smiles.

“A new beginning.”

Everyone packs up.

Hugs!

Kisses!

High fives!

“See you again. . . soon!”

  1. Love that they celebrated all the holidays in one week! Such a fun story! The title is perfect, too! Good luck, Sarah!

  2. Sarah- your story hit so close to home. We live far from our families so we always have to pack a year full of memories into one trip. Beautifully done and I love that Christmas takes place in a warm and sunny place instead of the typical snow scene. 🙂

  3. It came out so good Sarah. I like how the celebration of holidays mirrored the short time for vacation that family had to pack them all in. This is such a fun idea. I get little Yes Day vibe from your story. Kids would love to celebrate all these holidays back-to-back. I know my oldest wouldn’t know what do with himself if we did this 😄. Good luck!

  4. Wow! Now that is a family that knows how to make up for lost time!! Great job. But talk about needing a vacation after your vacation! LOL. Good luck Sarah.
